DESCRIPTION: Cationic guar gum is a naturally derived cationic derivative of guar gum. A multifunctional ingredient with thickening and conditioning benefits. It is especially beneficial in hair care due to its positive charge giving conditioning effects to the hair. It can be added to shampoos and conditioners and does not leave build-up on the hair. It can also be used in skincare.

HOW TO USE
INCI: Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride
Solubility: Water dispersible (see Technical advice below for more information)
Use rate: 0.2 – 0.4% (Up to 1.5%)
Appearance: Beige/yellowish powder
pH (1% solution): 8.0 – 10.0
Storage: Store in a cool, dark and dry place. For long storage, refrigerate.
Shelf life: 3 years
TECHNICAL ADVICE
Use Rates for different effects
- For conditioning effects: 0.10 – 0.50%
- In lotions: ≤0.25% in lotions.
- For additional thickening: up to 1.5%
Incorporation Advice
Add directly to the aqueous phase. Reduce pH to 5.5 with continuous stirring until polymer fully hydrates/particles dissolve. The gelling properties will not be seen unless the pH is reduced.
Surfactant Systems
To avoid incompatibility, Guar Cationic can be mixed in two ways
- Add surfactants in the following order: Nonionics first, Amphoterics second, and last of all, anionics. Other ingredients can then be added)
- Pre-disperse Cationic Guar in glycerin, propylene glycol, propanediol, etc. then add to the water phase before surfactants are added.
