DESCRIPTION: Oligo-68 (Oligopeptide-68) is an biomimetic peptide with a unique mechanism of action. It is a potent agent used to treat hyperpigmentation. However, it is also highly used for its effectiveness in dermatological formulas for its soothing, anti-inflammatory properties that help eliminate redness and irritation.
It acts on the MITF, TRP-1, and TRP-2 factors – inhibiting the key enzymes that catalyze the activation of melanocyte cells. Oligo-69 reduces the naturally occurring pathways to skin darkening (default skin colour), as well as pathways caused by other factors, such as UV radiation. This boosts skin whitening/lightening results. It decreases both tyrosinase activity and melanin synthesis, producing progressive brightening of the skin, fading dark spots, and evenly toning the complexion. Because of its encapsulated nature, it can provide a continued release for a longer duration. Significant results can be seen in as little as 28 days.
Oligo-68 prevents tyrosinase hyperactivity in the early stages, with significant skin lightening on pigmented spots after only 4 weeks. This peptide induces significant skin lightening shown to have a higher activity than Arbutin and vitamin C.
The peptide also helps protect the extracellular matrix and skin cells from free radical damage and oxidative stress. Its specific amino acid sequence, enriched with redox-active amino acids, tyrosine, tryptophan, act as electron donors to neutralize Reactive Oxygen Species By intercepting free radicals, it prevents degradation of cell membranes and mitigates DNA damage that leads to premature skin aging.
Oligopeptide-68 interrupts the inflammatory cascade by downregulating the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-6.Enzyme Suppression: It reduces the expression of inflammatory enzymes like inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2).
This soothes erythema (redness) and creates a calming environment that prevents melanocytes from overproducing pigment in response to injury or irritation
