DESCRIPTION: Ginkgo Biloba Extract comes from Ginkgo biloba leaves. Its main active ingredients are flavone glycosides and ginkgolides. It can act as a scavenger of free radicals, as well as a skin-lightening agent. It also inhibits lipid peroxidation. Ginkgo Biloba Extract also has anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, and other skin care effects.
Ginkgo Biloba Extract acts as an effective free radical remover in the skin and reduces lipid peroxide formation rate within the skin. A recent study has shown that Ginkgo Biloba Extract also has superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity; SOD is known to be an excellent free radical scavenger in the skin. Anti-oxidant activity prevents skin ageing, excessive skin darkening, UV damage, wrinkles and fine lines, and other ailments. They boost skin youthfulness and its natural ability to counter stressful conditions. Ginkgo is a potent inhibitor of tyrosinase, which is an enzyme responsible for the development of pigment in the skin. Hence ginkgo extracts, when applied to the skin may result in a skin-lightening effect.
