DESCRIPTION: Ellagic acid is an extract of Pomegranate (Punica Granatum fruit rinds) – it is a strong polyphenol that neutralizes cell deterioration and revitalizes the skin. Ellagic acid is rejuvenating, and enhances the levels of antioxidants enzymes within the skin, boosting the skin’s vitality. It exhibits skin-lightening effects as a strong polyphenol. It inhibits the activity of tyrosinase and the production of melanin. Ellagic acid also, has UV Protection, Anti-inflammatory activity, and wound healing support.

Ellagic acid has strong anti-ageing properties, inhibiting protein oxidation and DNA damage and suppressing enzymes responsible for decreasing collagen during photoaging. It reduces UV-Induced cell death, making it a prime ingredient in sun care. It helps revitalize cells and prevent them from dying and by boosting their repair. It also is a direct stimulator of collagen synthesis.

In skin lightening, it is particularly priceless in reducing skin darkening by binding to copper as a chelator. Hormonal-induced pigmentation is also responsive to ellagic acid. In one study, a 0.5% active concentration of ellagic acid in combination with salicylic acid, significantly reduced hyperpigmentation and dark spots better than some pharmaceuticals. In addition, it has antimicrobial properties against kinds of fungi and bacteria, making it beneficial in the treatment of acne and other microbial-related conditions.
