‌‎‎DESCRIPTION: Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is a stabilized (esterified) derivative of vitamin C with skin brightening and anti-ageing properties. It also possesses the same antioxidant characteristics. Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP) is metabolized into ascorbic acid within the skin. It resists discolouration and degradation well compared to L-Ascorbic acid.

As a skin brightener and lightener, SAP interrupts melanin production by inhibiting tyrosinase, (the enzyme that catalyzes melanin production), thereby lightening the skin tone. It also reverses the process. SAP acts as a tyrosinase inhibitor and a reducing agent

SAP helps protect the skin from UV-induced damage, which can cause skin darkening and premature ageing. It also promotes collagen production and prevents skin aging. It also repairs the collagen structure. It also has anti-microbial properties against the P.acne bacteria

FEATURES

  • Skin Lightening and brightening
  • Boost collagen production
  • Anti-ageing
  • Excellent antioxidant properties
  • Free-radical inhibition
  • Anti-acne
  • SAP is most stable >6.5. It remains stable in an alkaline environment – typically 7.0 – 8.0 (While SAP is stable compared to L-Ascobic acid, it is not without weaknesses. The following will help keep SAP stable in formulations.
    • 1% Sodium Citrate is recommended to maintain a stable pH environment
    • A metal chelator, and
    • An antioxidant.

Avoid long acidic conditions such as pH between 2-4. Try to make sure that the formulation’s pH is above that before adding SAP. SAP is not tolerant to heavy metals or heat. You should still package SAP-containing formulations in packaging that protects them from light, heat, and high temperature

  • For optimal results, use for 8 weeks at least.
  • The active content of Vitamin C in SAP is 45% minimum. However, what it lacks in concentration, it makes up with stability.

APPLICATIONS: Can be used in anti-ageing and skin-lightening and brightening formulations, in lotions, serums, creams, etc

HOW TO USE

INCI: Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate

Solubility: Water

Use Rate: 0.5 – 10.0 (0.5 – 2.0% for daily skincare formulations. 0.5 – 1.0 in suncare products, and >3.0% for skin lightening) (higher concentrations do not produce clear formulations)

Temperature Tolerance: Avoid temperatures above 40°C (or 60°C for a short time)

pH Stability: (While SAP is stable and comparable to L-Ascorbic acid, it is not without it weaknesses. The following will help keep SAP stable in formulations. 1% Sodium Citrate is recommended as well as a chelator and an antioxidant). Avoid long acidic conditions such as pH between 2-4. Try to make sure that the formulation’s pH is above that before adding SAP. SAP is not tolerant to heavy metals or heat. You should still package SAP containing formulations in packaging that protect it from light, heat and high temperature.
