DESCRIPTION: Sodium Lactate is a natural humectant that helps retain moisture within the skin. It is a salt of lactic acid. It also possesses antimicrobial properties (not to be used as a preservative) that boost preservative (bacteriostatic agent, inhibiting bacteria from reproducing, but not killing them). Its moisture drawing and retention properties make it beneficial in the treatment of dry and cracked skin. Sodium Lactate can increase the moisture content of skin by up to 84%.
It also has skin lightening properties. Sodium lactate can mildly increase your sensitivity to the sun when used above 3%. The use of sunscreen is advised.
Sodium Lactate is part of the Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF) within the skin. It offers substantivity and dryness repair. It can also be used in hair care products
