DESCRIPTION: Aristoflex® AVC is a versatile polymer with excellent rheological properties for different kinds of products. It offers thickening, gelling and stabilizing properties. Aristoflex AVC comes pre-neutralized for ease of formulation. It offers excellent sensory attributes, ideal for cream gels, clear water-based gels, and other skincare products. Hydroalcoholic gels can be formulated using up to 70°C alcohol. It can be used to formulate emulsifier-free creams with up to 15% lipid phase. Aritoflex AVC offers improved UV light and shear stability compared to similar thickeners It is fast-spreading, emollient and breaks quickly on the skin; giving a light, hydrating and fresh after-feel.

BENEFITS

  • Very good stabilization
  • Thickening and gelling agent
  • Non-ethoxylated
  • Compatible with solvents and silicones
  • Cold-processable
  • Pre-neutralized and easy to use
  • Excellent skin sensories – hydrating and fresh after-feel

APPLICATIONS: For clear aqueous gels, oil-in-water emulsions, emulsifier-free cream gels, lotions, milk, serums, etc.

This is a cosmetic raw material and is meant for external use only in cosmetic formulations.  As with all of our materials, it should not be taken internally. TECHNICAL TIP

Clear Gel Processing:

Method I

(A) Combine all ingredients except Aristoflex AVC and mix until clear (Heat if necessary and cool to 35ºC).

(B) Add Aristoflex AVC and mix until a smooth gel is obtained.

Method II

(A) Add Aristoflex AVC to water; mix until fully hydrated and clear.

(B) Add remaining ingredients one at a time and mix until a smooth gel is obtained.

Emulsion Processing:

Aristoflex® AVC can be used to prepare O/W emulsions in both hot and cold processes.

Method I (Preferred)

(A) Disperse Aristoflex AVC in the oil phase with the emulsifier (if using an additional emulsifier).

(B) Combine oil and water phases, and mix until homogeneous.

Note: Oil phase mixing vessel should be free of moisture to avoid premature hydration of polymer and creation of gel particles.

Method II

(A) Prepare emulsion as normal.

(B) Post-add Aristoflex AVC (dry powder or as aqueous gel premix) to the emulsion (can be added immediately, or after an initial mixing period, as desired).

Method III

(A) Combine oil and emulsifier in one phase.

(B) Add Aristoflex AVC to the water phase, mixing until a homogeneous gel is formed.

(C) Add (A) to (B)

Note: Although Method I is preferred; the optimum method of processing is formulation-dependent and varies with processing equipment. For Method III, sweep mixing may be required depending on viscosity of aqueous phase. Emulsions may be homogenized if necessary but is not routinely required.
