DESCRIPTION: Cosmo-White (1-Methylhydantoin-2-Imide) is a nature-identical amino acid with skin lightening and pH-regulating properties. In skin care applications, it is valued for its multifunctional properties, including skin-lightening, antioxidant, soothing, and skin-conditioning effects.
Cosmo-White lightens the skin by two mechanisms, namely
- Tyrosinase Inhibition: It acts as an amino acid-based competitive inhibitor of tyrosinase activity, which is the key enzyme responsible for melanin production. This effectively suppresses the formation of new melanin.
- Melanin Transfer Inhibition: It also safely interferes with the transfer of existing melanin from melanocytes (melanin-producing cells) to keratinocytes (skin cells).
It improves the clarity and evenness of skin tone. Its imide structure enables it to scavenge free radicals, thereby reducing oxidative stress on the skin. Additionally, it can stabilize formulations and enhance the performance of other active ingredients by improving their bioavailability.
Research
Tests compared to Kojic acid, it was found To be more effective in skin lightening than kojic acid (supplier brochure).
