DESCRIPTION: Goji polysaccharides (Lycium barbarum – goji berry) provide multiple benefits for the skin: film-forming hydration, antioxidant protection, and support against UV-stress–induced photoaging. At its core, it has a strong antioxidant defence: Goji polysaccharides scavenge reactive oxygen species and modulate redox balance, helping reduce oxidative stress that contributes to dullness and premature ageing. Secondly, by mitigating UVB-induced cellular stress pathways associated with photoaging, Goji polysaccharides help preserve extracellular matrix components, keeping the skin elastic, smoother, and firmer. As a low–molecular–weight, water-binding polymer, it can penetrate the upper layers of the epidermis to provide deeper hydration and form a soft, breathable film that enhances stratum corneum hydration and reduces transepidermal water loss, complementing humectants for immediate comfort and smoothness.
It synergises with other barrier and hydration ingredients, such as glycerols, niacinamide, panthenol, Biosaccharide gum-1, ceramides, etc.
