Description

DESCRIPTION: Licochalcone A is a high‑potency anti‑inflammatory and antioxidant chalcone derived from Glycyrrhiza inflata. It is widely used in dermocosmetic formulations for sensitive, reactive, acne‑prone, and redness‑prone skin due to its ability to calm irritation, neutralize free radicals, and support barrier recovery.

MECHANISMS OF ACTION

Anti‑Inflammatory Pathway Modulation: It helps “switch off” the signals that cause visible redness and irritation, making skin feel calmer and more comfortable. Licochalcone A inhibits multiple pro‑inflammatory mediators, including interleukins and prostaglandins, reducing redness, swelling, and irritation.

Antioxidant Defense Activation: Licochalcone A  activates antioxidant and detoxifying enzymes, protecting skin cells from oxidative damage such as lipid peroxidation, DNA damage, and protein degradation. It works like a “shield,” neutralizing environmental stressors that age and irritate the skin.

It also protects against:

  • UV-induced oxidative stress.
  • Blue light (HEVIS)–induced ROS (reactive oxygen species).

Sebum Regulation & Anti‑Acne Support: It helps keep oil levels balanced and reduces the look of angry, red blemishes. Studies indicate that Licochalcone A helps regulate excess sebum production, while its anti‑inflammatory action reduces acne‑related redness and swelling. This also help reduce the appearance of large pores.

Barrier Support & Redness Reduction: It strengthens the skin’s natural defenses, helping it stay hydrated and less reactive. By reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, Licochalcone A indirectly supports:

  • Barrier repair
  • Reduced transepidermal water loss (TEWL)
  • Improved comfort in sensitive skin
