DESCRIPTION: Hydroxy-White is a multifunctional skin lightener with skin protective and anti-inflammatory properties. It is used in skin lightening, brightening, melasma, spot treatments and age-targeting skincare treatments. It is a derivative of Hydroquinone without the cytotoxicity and drawbacks of Hydroquinone. It has a chemical structure similar to hydroquinone but a different mechanism; Hydroxy-White inhibits both melanin production and melanin release by melanocytes. This makes it a powerful skin lightener. In addition to this, it also exhibits photoprotective and anti-inflammatory effects on epidermal skin cells, preventing UVB-induced skin damage. It is also very bioavailable, with a low molecular size able to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin where it is needed.

Hydroxy-White has also been shown to help maintain the effects of hydroquinone in a clinical trial with other skin actives ( in one clinical trial. In another study, a serum containing 4-n-butyl resorcinol, Hydroxy-White (hydroxyphenoxy propionic acid), niacinamide, glycolic acid, and dipotassium glycyrrhizate along with sun protection has been shown by both clinical and objective instrumental assessments to produce significant improvement in hyperpigmentation disorders after 12 weeks of treatment.

Another study with 40 Brazillian participants evaluated the efficacy and tolerability of a cosmeceutical formulation containing ellagic acid, hydroxyphenoxy propionic acid, yeast extract and salicylic acid in subject to mild-moderate melasma. After 90 days of treatment, a significant improvement could be observed in the clinical and colourimetric parameters evaluated. Skin lightening was effective without causing adverse events.

In both patients, there is a reduction in the intensity and size of the sots. There are also improvements in the skin’s homogeneity of colouration and luminosity.
