DESCRIPTION: Licorice Extract (Glycyrrhiza uralensis – liquiritin) is an off-white coloured powder used in cosmetics for skin lightening and anti-inflammatory activity. It is widely accepted as a non-irritating extract for skin lightening with soothing properties It is able to fade dark spots and uneven pigmentation, reduce the severity of hyperpigmentation and brighten the complexion.

The skin lightening mechanism of action involves reducing the inflammatory reaction that causes skin darkening, inhibiting tyrosinase, and making already formed pigments less intense, resulting in a brighter and more even skin tone.

The Difference between the 3 Licorice extracts we stock

Licorice Extract – White has a higher content of Liquiritin and a high content of liquidity – making it preferable for skin lightening (Off-white/Beige powder 1.0 -2.0%).

Licorice Extract – Soothe has a lower content of Glabradin and a higher content of Glycyrrhizic acid, making it ideal for anti-inflammatory purposes (White powder (0.5 – 5.0%).

Lico-White: A high concentration of liquiritigenin which lightens already produced melanin for a more even and lighter complexion and combats acne. (Viscous Liquid 0.2 – 1.0%)

Dipotassium Glycyrrhizinate: A compound of licorice with anti-inflammatory, skin soothing, sebum-regulating, anti-irritant and skin moisturizing attributes. (White powder)

Licorice powder: Powdered plant for soaps and powder scrubs, etc. It does not dissolve in water.

Use Rate: 0.5 – 2.0%

Temperature Tolerance: Avoid temperatures above 40°C

pH Stability: 3.5 – 6.5

Appearance: Off-white beige coloured powder

Assay: (Glabradin 0.8% minimum, Liquiritin 60.0% Glycyrrhizic acid and Glycyrrhizin flavone)

Storage: Store in a cool, dark, and dry place.
