DESCRIPTION: Acne-Zap is a positively-charged active with 99.0% effectiveness in killing germs. It can kill all kinds of bacteria including acne bacteria (P.Acne). It also contributes to the microbial protection of the formula. It has a very low use rate and is effective in wash-off formulas. Due to its positive charge, it can adhere to the skin, making it effective for longer periods.

At 1.0%, Acne-Zap is effective against gram-positive, gram-negative and p.acne bacterial strains; It damages the microorganisms by causing the collapse of cell membrane and cell wall and intracellular degradation. It is used in Japan as an over-the-counter (OTC) anti-acne ingredient

In addition, it has skin-lightening properties, making it ideal for preventing excessive skin darkening, preventing and treating acne marks.

Research

In a clinical test involving 38 participants, participants washed their faces 3ce daily with an emulsion containing 0.001% Quaternium-73 (equal to 1.0% Acne-zap) and smears twice a week cream containing  0.005% (5.0% Acne kill) and a 50% reduction in spots within 2 weeks.

It has a wide pH range of stability and can withstand heat which makes adding to the heated water phase ideal. It is non-sensitizing to the skin. Formulas containing acne zap need to be protected from light – opaque or dark containers are advised. The addition of UV protection, such as Tinoguard SQ can also be utilised for additional protection.

Acne-Zap is an effective ingredient specifically special in treating acne – in its prevention, treatment and reducing hyperpigmentation/acne marks, and preventing scarring caused by acne.
