DESCRIPTION: Thiazolyl (more comonly known as Thiamidol) is a novel skin-lightening ingredient with clinical efficacy. Its mechanism of action is via anti-tyrosinase inhibition. Thiamidol is a potent, selective lightening agent in preventing and treating post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, such as dark spots, melasma sun darkening, etc
According to one research, Thiamidol was applied to a group of people and a control base was applied to another. They were further exposed to UVB radiation. Participants who applied Thiamidol-based products had significantly lighter skin. This study was conducted on 30 participants for 3 weeks.
Another clinical study conducted a double-blinded trial, using Thiamidol for 3 months on 14 participants with acne-related PIH. After 2 weeks of treatment, thiamidol-treated sites were significantly lighter than control sites and improved during the treatment period. The evaluation was done using Mexameter measurements, expert grading, self-grading and clinical photography.
A randomized evaluator-blinded controlled study comparing both efficacy and tolerance of Thiamidol (0.2% twice daily) and Hydroquinone (4.0% at bedtime) on facial melasma for 90 days with sunscreen SPF 60 PPD 20). The melasma improvement achieved using 0.2% Thiamidol did not differ from that of 4% hydroquinone cream. Thiamidol is a suitable option for melasma patients who have a low tolerance towards hydroquinone or have had treatment failure with it.
A Clinical trial on Fitzpatrick V & VI for 12 weeks on 29 participants with acne-related PIH After 12 weeks of treatment. The evaluation used Mexameter measurements, expert grading, self-grading and clinical photography.
RECOMMENDATION
Based on our studies, thiamidol is a potent but selective pigment inhibitor; Our recommendation is to use this active to treat post-inflammatory pigmentation, such as those with acne marks, dark spots, burns, melasma, atopic dermatitis, etc. For best results, this product should be applied both day and night or up to 3 times daily. To potentiate results and/or overall skin lightening, combine it with other skin lighteners. The best results were seen at 12 weeks.
Please note: This active is patented by Eucerin – This means that you cannot name this ingredient as the active used to achieve skin-lightening efficacy in your product claims. You cannot also use the name Thiamidol as it is patented.
To prevent oxidation, please add Activ-Shield and/or Active lipid shield to help inhibit discolouration. Use in an airtight packaging is also beneficial.
