INTRODUCTION: TCA is a very good peel treatment for a multitude of skin conditions, such as improving finelines and wrinkles, evening out the skin tone, revealing fresher skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, post-inflammatory pigmentation, acne, shallow and deeper acne scars, and a rough skin texture.  It is especially beneficial in helping to correct hyperpigmentation. It can be used on all skin tones, including ethnic skin types (African, Asian, Italian, etc)

We offer 3 types of TCA dilutions; 15%, 30%, and 50%. The 30% and 50% TCA peel is sold for dilution purposes ONLY. Do not use this undiluted. Please see below for dilution guidelines. Do not use TCA above 20% as it could be damaging to the skin. Reserve such high-strength peels for dermatologists. It is better to use a lower strength with different layers than a higher concentration.

HOW TCA DIFFERS FROM OTHER PEELS

TCA works by breaking down the protein in the epidermis and dermis. It cannot be neutralized like other acids. The strength of a TCA peel can be measured by the layers and not just the strength of the acid.  A light even coating applied in multiple layers until a light frosting (whiting of the skin) is achieved is the best and safest way to get optimal results.

WARNINGS

  • If you get TCA in your eye, flush it out immediately with water and then seek medical attention.
  • TCA peels are strong and can damage your skin if applied incorrectly. If this is your first time doing a chemical peel, you should try a milder solution before doing a TCA peel or have a dermatologist or trained therapist apply the peel.

It is advisable to discuss this with your doctor before deciding if this is best for you.

PRE PEEL

  • For best results, use products that contain alpha hydroxy acids 7-14 days pre-peel. This could be a low-pH acidic cleanser. This is especially advised for darker skin tones.
  • Use an anti-tyrosinase inhibitor to prevent PIH.
  • Test a small patch of skin to check for any reactions. Rinse after 3 weeks Wait 48 hours before applying a peel to your face. If the area tested becomes itchy, red, or bumpy, you should not apply it to your skin.

PEEL APPLICATION

Step 1: Cleanse your face before application to remove any surface oils.

Step 2: Remove any leftover oil by applying diluted alcohol to your skin using gauze.

Step 3: Apply vaseline around the eyes, mouth, and nose to protect those sensitive areas.

Step 4: Put on latex gloves

Step 5: pour the diluted TCA solution into a small vessel. It is easier to dip gauze into a wide bowl and apply it to the skin.

Step 6: Dip a piece of gauze into the TCA solution, then squeeze the gauze gently. You want the gauze to be wet, but not dripping. This will prevent the solution from running into your eyes. Then apply a thin layer of TCA to the desired area of skin horizontally.

Start by applying the TCA solution to one side of your face (left or right), then apply to the opposite side, and do the forehead last. This will help prevent you from overlapping the solution.

Allow the solution to perform for 2-5 minutes.

If you are an advanced user, you may apply additional layers of TCA for a deeper peel or to reach a frost (whitish). Always wait 5 minutes before applying another layer. If you see frosting on only certain areas of your face, you may apply another layer to areas that did NOT have frosting.

DO NOT APPLY more than 5 layers of solution

Step 7: Wait 2-5 minutes before washing your face. It is normal for your skin to turn red and sting a bit while the peel is on your face. Using a fan may help.

  • If your skin begins to frost (i.e. turn white) or sting uncomfortably, you can begin neutralizing immediately by washing the solution off with water. Applying cold water to your face while washing off can help soothe your discomfort.
  • This is more likely to occur when using a stronger TCA of 15% or higher.

POST-PEEL

TCA does not need neutralizing, however, if it is uncomfortable, you can wash off the peel.

Step 1: Wash your face with water. This helps neutralize the acids.

Step 2: Apply a moisturizer. You should apply this several times a day as needed while your skin is peeling. Do not skip this step as it not only helps prevent tearing but makes the skin heal faster.

Step 3: Avoid the sun where possible. Use SPF 30+ sunscreen minimum to protect your skin. Remember to reapply every 2 hours.

Drink lots of water.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1-2 layers: Your skin will look and feel like a sunburn

3-5 layers: You will feel white spotting (frosting) and/or blushing for the first hour.

Over the next few days: Your skin will turn significantly darker – brown and really dark in certain areas in about 2-3 days. It will also feel tight – it helps when you moisturize. Do not make exaggerated facial movements to avoid hurting yourself. The skin will begin shedding between 3-5 days on average. Most of your skin will be exfoliated in approximately 7-10 days.  Allow 10 – 14 days for full recover

Do not pull out your skin. It could cause deep tears as well as interrupt the healing process.

Do not be surprised if another layer of skin begins peeling after about a week. This is normal but will not be as excessive as the first.
